Sybil Todd, former University of Houston System vice chancellor
and University of Houston vice president for institutional advancement,
died recently after a nearly 10-month battle with pancreatic
cancer.
Todd, 66, joined UH in April 1997. During her tenure at the
university, she played a part in several major structural and
image changes. Todd worked to combine the campus and system
development and university relations staff in the wake of the
decision to merge the UH president and UH System chancellor’s
offices. She chaired the search committee for the athletics
director and increased university fund-raising.
Todd also served as vice president for student affairs at the
universities of Alabama and Utah. She held numerous positions
at the University of Virginia, including associate dean of students
and associate professor. She retired from higher education in
2003 and worked with Wisteria Catalog Co.
Todd earned her master’s and doctorate degrees from Arizona
State University and a bachelor’s degree from West Texas
State University, (now West Texas A&M University).
She is survived by her siblings — Clif Todd, Gordon Todd
and Norma Lockett — and many other family members and
friends.
Services were held last week in Dallas.
