An Olympic athlete, a corporate leader and a state senator
were among those honored with the Houston Alumni Organization’s
(HAO) 52nd Annual Distinguished Alumni Awards.

commentator; Jack B. Moore (’77), president of Cameron
Inc.; and Texas Sen. John Whitmire (’75, ’76) received
the Distinguished Alumni Awards.

track and field. She competed in the 1984 and 1988 Olympics
and was a bronze medalist at the 1983 World Track Championships.
In her 15-year career, she set numerous American and NCAA records.
After graduation, Lewis provided expert commentary on several
networks, including ABC, CBS and NBC. She is executive director
of the Carl Lewis Foundation.
At UH, Moore was a student senator and Delta Sigma Phi chairman
and president. After graduation, he excelled in business, working
at Baker Hughes and then Cameron International. In 2002, he
became vice president and general manager of Cameron’s
Western Hemisphere operations. In January, he will become Cameron’s
acting president and chief operating officer.
In 1982, Whitmire was first elected to the Texas Senate. He
has chaired the Senate Criminal Justice Committee and has served
on numerous committees and boards, including the government
organization, finance and administration committees. He is an
attorney for the Locke, Liddell, and Sapp law firm.
Jeff Fuller (’95), UH’s associate director of admissions,
received HAO’s Outstanding Volunteer Award. During his
days as a student, Fuller was extremely active in organizations
from his fraternity to the College Republicans. After graduation,
he remained active with many alumni groups, including the Young
Alumni League. For more than a decade, he volunteered on the
Operation School Supplies Committee and served for two terms
as UH Staff Council president.
HAO’s Distinguished Service Award went to Cathy Coers
Frank (’80), co-founder of Reunions by Class Act, and
Francie Willis, chief executive officer and president of Urban
Retreat and Francie Willis Enterprises.
