Clifford Kennedy, day supervisor for the Department of Public
Safety Parking Enforcement, was presented the PEP Award for
exemplary professionalism, enthusiasm, pride and service.
Kennedy, who has worked at the UH for 25 years, expressed surprise
at hearing his name called at Friday’s ceremony. “I
really wasn’t expecting this,” he said.
The President’s Award went to Energy Project Group members
Gary Crosby, Sameer Kapileshwari, Dan Marshall and Don Martin
for their outstanding work on energy conservation, which has
lowered UH’s utility bills while also reducing equipment
and consulting costs.
“Energy management is certainly a priority for all of
us,” said Crosby, director of utility services, who has
worked for UH for 15 years. “We have a great team in the
Department of Utility Services helping us accomplish our goals,
but it’s going to take the cooperation and help of the
campus community to save energy the way it needs to be saved.”
Martin, daytime building control operator in the department,
agreed with Crosby, saying, “This is very much a team
effort. It’s not just one person.”

“I’m really excited to get this award, and I’m
really happy that the university is taking energy conservation
very seriously,” Kapileshwari said.
Under the leadership of John Rudley, vice president for administration
and finance, the division
provides those services that enable the university to meet its
functions of teaching, research and public service. Its area
of responsibility includes finance, facilities planning and
