The University of Houston College of Education is joining forces
with UH-Clear Lake to offer a doctoral program in school psychology.
“There is a national shortage of school psychologists,
coupled with a dramatic influx of at-risk children requiring
psychological services in Texas and the greater Houston area,”
said Tom Kubiszyn, professor of educational psychology and the
director of the new program.
“The new program complements the training and research
mission of the UH College of Education and we have very successful
in recruiting top-tier faculty for the program,” said
Jacqueline Hawkins, chair of the Department of Educational Psychology.
In addition to Kubiszyn, other UH faculty members involved
in the program are Julie Landis, Houston Psychological Association
past president and former member of the clinical research faculty
at the Baylor College of Medicine, and Romilia Ramirez, recent
graduate of Lehigh University’s school psychology program.
UH-Clear Lake faculty members affiliated with the program include
Gail Cheramie, Texas Association of School Psychologists former
president, Emily Sutter, a Psychological Association past president
and Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists past chair,
and Mary Stafford, who comes from Arizona State University.
