He’ll be Bach.
P.D.Q. Bach, that is.
Humorist Peter Schickele will perform at 1 p.m. Dec. 6 in Dudley
Recital Hall, discussing the work of his fictitious classical
composer with tongue firmly in cheek.
The event is free and open to the public, but seating is limited.
The interview will be broadcast at a later date on the Internet
at http://mediaweb.tss.uh.edu/live/live.qtl.
It will also be broadcast later in the week on KUHF’s
“The Front Row.”
Schickele has composed a body of orchestral work under the
P.D.Q. Bach pseudonym and concocted a comedic biography on this
bumbling musician. Kazoos, human snores and other out of the
ordinary instruments are common within P.D.Q. Bach arrangements,
which have been welcomed on stages around the country and on
several recordings including “An Evening with P.D.Q. Bach:
1807 – 1742?” and
“A Hysteric Return: P.D.Q. Bach at Carnegie Hall.”
“This is a great chance to explore what makes a brilliant
promoter and musician tick in an increasingly hostile classical
music world,” said Peter Jacoby, music director of the
Moores Opera Center and artistic director of Orchestra X.
Schickele also will join Jacoby and Orchestra X for the concert
“P.D.Q. Bach in Houston: We Have a Problem” at 8
p.m. Friday, Dec. 9 in Rice University’s Stude Hall. For
