Educational institutions across the nation will observe International
Education Week Nov. 14 through 18. UH officials have scheduled
a variety of events for faculty, staff and students.
“This special week is a great occasion to focus on the
rich representation of cultures and opportunities available
in international education at the University of Houston. We
have 2,738 international students and 197 J-1 (a Visa category)
research scholars representing 133 countries at UH,” said
Anita Gaines, director of the Office of International Student
and Scholar Services.
International Education Week is an initiative of the U.S. Department
of State and the U.S. Department of Education to promote programs
that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract
future leaders from abroad to study, learn and exchange experiences
in the United States.
A photo contest, an education fair, study-abroad presentations
and a job seminar for international students are just some of
the campus activities planned for International Education Week.
Sponsors are the offices of international admissions, international
student and scholar services, international studies and programs,
the Language and Culture Center, University Career Services,
the Council of Ethnic Organizations and the Delta Iota Chapter
of Phi Beta Delta.
