Former University of Houston administrator Emmett B. Fields
Jr., 81, recently died at his Nashville home.
A native of Fort Smith, Ark., Fields joined UH as vice president
and dean of faculties in 1969 and was promoted to executive
vice president. He left the university in 1975.
Fields also held numerous positions at other higher education
institutions, serving as president of the State University of
New York at Albany and Vanderbilt University.
A World War II veteran, Fields is survived by his wife, three
children and four grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made
to the Nashville Public Library and Vanderbilt’s College
of Arts and Science.
