STAFF COUNCIL ELECTS
NEW OFFICERS FOR 2005 - 2006

Some faces may have changed since its recent election, but the University of Houston’s Staff Council still has the same mission for the 2005 – 2006 academic year – to represent the staff and serve as an advisory body to the president and administration.

During the council’s first meeting of the fall semester, new officers were elected and committee chairs were appointed.

Staff Council’s new officers are as follows:

Vice President
Tina Blakes, program manager - Scholars’ Community

Secretary
Leon Patterson, health physicist – Environmental Health and Risk Management

Treasurer
Stephanie Malbrough, business administrator – College of Technology

Parliamentarian
Maria Saldana, study abroad adviser – Office of International Studies and Programs

Historian
Nat Oliva, claims coordinator – Environmental Health and Risk Management

Jean Valyan, financial coordinator - Office of Administration and Finance Business

Communications
Mary Reed, office coordinator- College of Pharmacy’s Office of the Dean

Events
Rebecca Szwarc, administrative assistant - Residential Life and Housing

Membership and Elections
Karl Bernard, information technology security analyst – Security and Disaster Recovery

Student Affairs
Carol Barr, business manager – College of Education

“I am very excited about the talent and potential that the newly elected Staff Council officers bring to the table,” said Charles Henry, Staff Council president. “We have a great year ahead of us. We look forward to partnering with the UH administration and the human resources department to work toward making UH the employer of choice for Houstonians.”
