EXCELLENCE IN RESEARCH AND SCHOLARSHIP AWARD
BASSLER’S RESEARCH, SCHOLARSHIP
A WINNING COMBINATION
Kevin Bassler, an assistant professor of physics, received the
Excellence in Research and Scholarship Award for the assistant professor
rank.
Hired in 1998 as a visiting assistant professor, Bassler became
a tenure-track assistant professor in 2000. His research is in complexity
theory, which studies the collective behavior that emerges in a
system due to the interaction of its individual parts.
“Kevin Bassler’s scientific work is original, interesting,
well-executed, thoughtful and stimulating,” said one supporter
of Bassler’s nomination for the award.
“I am thankful to the university for all of the support
I have received since coming here and to all of my graduate students
and collaborators who have made this award possible,” Bassler
said.
Awards are given each year to three faculty members who have achieved
a substantial record of outstanding research, scholarship or creative
activities in their field. Each award carries a $3,000 stipend and
a plaque.
