CAMPUS RECRUITMENT CENTER
GETS AN EXTREME MAKEOVER
The University of Houston’s
University Career Services’ (UCS) Campus Recruitment Center
received an extreme makeover of sorts thanks, in part, to the generosity
of several local businesses, including El Paso Corp.
UH recently completed a $165,000 renovation of the
center, located in Room 156 of the Student Service Center. The project
included new furniture, carpeting, a reception desk, lighting, paint
and cabinetry work. El Paso Corp. donated $36,000 for the center’s
refurbishing. Other contributors were Foley’s, BP (British
Petroleum), Chevron-Texaco Corp., and Marathon Oil Corp.
“The gifts from El Paso kick-started the bandwagon
of corporate support for the UCS renovation project,” said
David Small, assistant vice president for student services. “Participating
corporations made it possible for us to significantly upgrade the
professional environment we strive to create and maintain for UH
job candidates and visiting employers.”
ABOUT UNIVERSITY CAREER SERVICES
Last year, University Career
Services (UCS) served 8,450 students and alumni in individual
and group counseling sessions. More than 3,600 students and alumni
registered with the department’s ResumeBank, an online resume
database that enables employers to search for UH job candidates.
For fiscal year 2004, UCS sponsored 137 corporate recruitment visits
resulting in 3,560 on-campus interviews.
