The future leadership of the
University of Houston’s Faculty Senate was decided and a new
president-elect will be in place starting in January.
Steven Craig, professor of economics, was elected
to that position during the senate’s Dec. 8 meeting. He will
serve as president-elect throughout 2005 and will become president
in January 2006.
Allen Warner, professor of education is the senate’s
current president-elect and will be inaugurated as president on
Jan. 26.
"I ran for the office because I am optimistic
about UH’s future,” Craig said. “I look forward
to working with the senate to help UH President Jay Gogue and the
provost provide students with a superior education, especially through
rebuilding the size and quality of our faculty."
Craig currently serves on the senate’s Budget
and Facilities Committee and the Task Force on Compensation and
Retention.
Sara McNeil, professor of curriculum and instruction,
was re-elected as the senate’s secretary. She and the other
elected officers (see sidebar) will begin their terms in January.
