UH SYSTEM SWEARS IN NEW REGENT
Once a Cougar, always a Cougar
— that’s the sentiment of Calvin Stephens, who was sworn
in as the University of Houston System’s newest regent on
Monday, Oct. 25.
Surrounded by family and friends, Stephens humbly accepted the position
saying, “Although this is my swearing-in ceremony, this is
not just about me.”
Stephens, a noted Dallas businessman and UH alumnus,
added, “I’m looking forward to working with President
Gogue, Chairman O’Connor, all the members of the board of
regents and the entire UH System family to continue making the University
of Houston System a great institution.”
In September, Gov. Rick Perry appointed Stephens,
chairman and president of SSP Consulting, L.C., to the board of
regents for a term expiring Aug. 31, 2009. Stephens earned a bachelor’s
degree in marketing from UH in 1972.
“I’ve always had a warm spot in my heart
for Houston and for UH,” Stephens said earlier. “The
opportunity to give something back by serving as a regent is very
gratifying.”
