A HOMECOMING MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT
JAY GOGUE
Dear Students, Faculty and Staff:
Homecoming 2004 is here, and
it is time to “Re-Discover the Treasure” that is our
University of Houston. Susie and I encourage you join your fellow
students, faculty, and staff by taking part in as many of our homecoming
activities as possible between Oct. 30 and Nov. 8.
This year marks our 58th homecoming, a tradition
that began in 1946. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, our homecoming
activities involved the entire city of Houston. In fact, thousands
of Houstonians looked forward to going downtown each year to watch
our elaborate parades.
We won’t be parading through the streets of
Houston this year, but we will have many activities that I believe
our UH family will enjoy.
You can find the full list of activities online
at http://www.houstonalumni.com/.
Among the highlights is Wednesday’s UH Spirit Day. Wear something
Cougar Red and come to the UH Spirit Day Pep Rally at noon at the
Cullen Family Plaza. We’ll have free food and entertainment.
If it rains, we’ll move it to the University Center Arbor.
Don’t miss the many other exciting events,
either. Some of our colleges and alumni organizations will hold
tailgate parties during the afternoon before the homecoming game
against East Carolina University at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6.
I hope you’ll make an effort to rediscover
the treasure of your university. It’s going to be a great
week. Susie and I hope to visit with as many of you as we can.
Sincerely,
Jay Gogue
