EROTIC IMAGINATION EXPLORED AT CONFERENCE
Eroticism moves the spirit and
stimulates the psyche. Still, it’s a concept that remains
a source of controversy.
Whether it’s raw desire, sensual works of
art or religious taboos, the erotic imagination fosters conversation
and debate in a number of arenas. It is also the focus of the conference,
“The Erotic Imagination: Refractions of the Spirit,”
sponsored by the Honors College at the University of Houston and
the Jung Center of Houston.
The conference will run from 7 – 9 p.m. on
Friday, Oct. 1 and from 9 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct.
2 in the new Honors College Commons in the M.D. Anderson Library.
The conference is free to UH faculty, staff and students.
The conference’s keynote speaker is Wendy
Doniger, professor of religious history at the University of Chicago.
Other guests include Jeffery K. Kripal, professor of religious studies
at Rice University and Lyn Cowan, Jungian analyst.
“The Honors College is pleased to join forces
with the Jung Center to bring events like this to campus,”
said Ted Estess, dean of the Honors College. “We have very
special speakers lined up for this conference and I know that the
topic itself will provide interesting discourse.”
The conference is the seventh collaboration between
the Honors College and the Jung Center with aid from the Carolyn
Grant Fay Endowment, which provides opportunities for honors students
to study the psychology of Carl Gustav Jung.
To register for this conference event or to request
a brochure, call the Jung Center at (713) 743-8253.
