STAFF COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED
Thanks to a helping hand from
the University of Houston’s Staff Council, 10 UH staff members
will have an easier time continuing their academic endeavors.
The recipients of the Staff Council Scholarships
recently were announced. Staff members who qualified for a $500
scholarship to be used toward UH tuition are:
- Khalid Bhatti, programmer analyst – Office
of Scholarships and Financial Aid
- Michael Louie, user support specialist –
Technical Support Services Department in the Division of
Information Technology
- Robert Marlin, senior library specialist –
M.D. Anderson Library
- Stephanie Phipps, teacher – Human Development
Laboratory
- Brenda Robles, project manager – Office
of Graduate and Professional Studies
- Irma Rodriguez, library assistant – M.D.
Anderson Library
- Douglas teDuits, assistant director – Office
of Affirmative Action and Equal Employment
Opportunity
- Carolina Villarroel, project coordinator –
Recovering the U.S. Hispanic Literary Heritage Project at
Arté Publico Press
- Lydia Westbrook, researcher – Hilton College
of Hotel and Restaurant Management
- Kimberly Zainfeld, certification officer –
Teacher Education Certification Office in the College of Education
“I’m very excited about this scholarship,”
said teDuits, who is pursuing a doctoral degree in education. “It
will go a long way in helping me pay for my tuition.”
Staff Council Scholarships are open to all full-time
benefits-eligible staff members employed at UH for at least 12 months
and with a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The Staff Council
Staff Affairs Committee reviews the scholarship applications and
determines the recipients.
