- Who can join the UHFS?
Any undergraduate or graduate student who is maintaining satisfactory academic status (GPA of 2.0 or higher) can join.
- How do I join?
By coming and completing a brief member interest form in Room 102 Oberholtzer Hall, the office of the UHFS.
- Do I need experience in speech / debate / theatre?
No.
- Are there regular practices?
YES. The practices are arranged around your schedule. Each competing student’s schedule is accommodated. Regular weekly meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on Mondays when the UH Speech & Debate Team is not competing out-of-town.
- Do I HAVE to compete?
No, but attendance/active participation is expected of all members.
- What can I do as a member of the UH Forensics Team?
Volunteer/judge, host events, and/or compete.
- Do I HAVE to win?
No.
- Are there scholarships in speech / debate?
No. ALL our members – whether they volunteer, judge, host, or compete – get invaluable practical experience through our events. Prospective employers and graduate schools place a high value on participation in events sponsored by the UHFS.
