Abstract
Over the past decades, radar sounding and imaging techniques have provided new insights into the understanding of surface and subsurface physical properties of the Earth, Moon, Venus, Mercury, and Mars - as well as numerous smaller solar system bodies. The knowledge gained from those missions changed fundamentally our understanding of the terrestrial and planetary environmental processes required for life habitability. Dr Essam Heggy will focus on the Martian case and the analogy to earth arid environments: What they share in common? What led Mars to lose it surface water presence? Is our planet heading toward the same scenario? What if Mars water exploration technologies can help us tomorrow exploring hidden water resources in Africa and can change life for millions living in earth arid environments?

Biography of Essam Heggy:
Born in Libya in 1975, he spent 12 years of his childhood in Tunisia. He graduated from the astronomy department at the Cairo University, Egypt in 1997 then received PhD in 2002 with a distinguished honor degree from the Paris VI University in France. His research work involves understanding the electromagnetic properties of rocks in the radar frequency range and mapping subsurface hydrological and volcanic structures. Currently he is participating as a scientist on the several Mars ESA/NASA missions. Presently a Visiting Scientist at the Lunar and Planetary Institute. Served on the board of the NASA Planetary Instrument Development and Definition Program and NASA Educational and Public Outreach Program. Received awards from the NASA and the European Space Agency. A human right activist and a leading reformist in the Egyptian universities. Heggy was awarded the French citizenship as a distinguished scientist in 2006.
