Bauer Ambassador Vidha Dixit: Spreading Positivity through Business

Bookmark and Share

Oct 20, 2016 - Since arriving on campus in the Fall of 2013, Marketing and Management double major Vidha Dixit has strived “to have a positive impact on everyone I meet and to help them find success.” Now a senior, Dixit has fulfilled that mission through her involvement in the Bauer College of Business and intends to continue that mission as she moves into the corporate world.
Having applied to UH as a political science major, Dixit’s first interaction with the world of business was at an Honors Open House, where she learned about the Bauer Honors Program. There, she instantly clicked with an advisor, who told her about the importance of business in everyday life and the opportunities available to Bauer Honors students. “I love talking to people and seeing what motivates them, and business seemed to fit with that,” Dixit recalls. “I switched my major and haven’t looked back.”

As a freshman, Dixit partnered with Junior Achievement USA to teach a personal finance course to students at DeBakey High School. “Because of the opportunities afforded to me, I understand the importance of economic and educational empowerment,” Dixit reflects. She further honed her business skills by taking part in case competitions, where teams of students are challenged to develop solutions to simulated business challenges. Impressed by her experience, Dixit joined Bauer Ambassadors to encourage other students to pursue business. She first served as Public Relations Chair, and then went on to become President of the organization during her junior year. Having just completed her term, Dixit now provides support and encouragement to incoming students as a Freshman Bauer Honors Mentor and Student Program Coordinator.

In addition to studying business, Dixit enjoys learning about the history, culture, and politics of India through the India Studies minor. Last winter, Dixit fulfilled her lifelong dream of revisiting India, the country where she was born. “It was amazing that we were able to actually see what we were learning about in our books,” she says. “We would read about the history behind the Taj Mahal, and then walk right outside our doors to see it.” While on the trip, Dixit traveled to over ten cities throughout the country. On campus, Dixit shares her love for the Indian culture through Houston Di Shaan, a traditional dance team she founded as a sophomore. With graduation on the horizon, Dixit has been busy interviewing with potential employers and considering career options. She is happy to announce that she has decided to sign with Hilti, a multinational tool manufacturing company she interned with over the summer. Dixit will work in Human Resources, where she plans to continue making a positive impact on those around her. Although her new career may take her away from Houston, she plans to stay connected to UH by joining the Alumni Association and representing UH wherever she goes. She’s already been practicing: “At my internship over the summer, I threw up the Coog sign everywhere I went!” she exclaims. “Attending UH was of the best choices of my life, and it is thanks to the Tier One Scholarship that I was able to achieve all that I could. I hope to take the skills I have acquired to help others find their potential in the business world.”
