This project will look at the design and analysis of routing algorithm for optical networks. This includes issues related to modification of current routing protocols such as OSPF that can be applied to optical networks. The project will develop the necessary TLVs that can be implemented to support optical networks. The proposed scheme will be heuristic based solutions to different optical technologies. For instance, next generation optical networks look at the implementation of band switching technology rather than wavelength switching. However, current routing modification implementations are related to wavelength switch networks. Then, the interaction of the routing algorithm with the signaling protocol to distribute and reserve resources in the network will be studied. The overall objective of the project will examine the optical technology that maximizes capacity utilization of WDM networks.
