IA Focus Area of Study in the CIS Bachelor of Science Degree Program
The following courses comprise the IS track within the CIS program and are completed as Technical Elective courses within the CIS Degree Plan. Please note that both undergraduate and graduate students are permitted to enroll in the CIS 5321 course since it is a 5000-level course. CIS 5321 was mapped to the CNSS 4011 training standard.
Beginning Fall 2008, a track of IA courses was added to the UH Undergraduate Catalog. CIS students can enroll in this track of IA courses as Technical Electives within the CIS Degree Plan; see UH undergraduate catalog of CIS Courses.
CIS 2337 – Fundamentals of Information Security
Cr. 3. (3-0). Fundamental principles of information security, including technical security issues, people security issues, policy issues, privacy, and ethics; search current syllabus.
Prerequisite: C or better in ITEC 1301, or equivalent
CIS 3337 – Secure Application Design
Cr. 3. (3-0). Foundations and principles of designing applications using a secure design life cycle process, including common causes of errors and current tools to improve code; search current syllabus.
Prerequisites: CIS 2337 and 2348
CIS 3351 – Intrusion Detection and Incident Response
Cr. 3. (3-0). Fundamentals of intrusion detection and incident response for enterprise level computer systems, including technical, policy, and legal issues; search current syllabus.
Prerequisite: CIS 2337.
CIS 4357 – Digital Forensics
Cr. 3. (3-0). Fundamentals of digital forensics, including media analysis, data reconstruction, network forensics, and the legal issues surrounding the use of forensic data; search current syllabus.
Prerequisites: CIS 2337 and 3365.
CIS 4367 – Advanced Digital Forensics
Cr. 3. (3-0). Advanced digital forensics; e-discovery, media analysis, data reconstruction, reporting and legal issues surrounding digital data in criminal and civil litigation; search current syllabus.
Prerequisites: CIS 4357.
CIS 4397 – Selected Topics
Cr. 3. (3-0). May be repeated for credit when topics vary; search current syllabus.
Prerequisite: approval of department chair.
