The author proposed a simple analytical model to compute the saturation throughput performance of the 802.11 Distributed Coordination Function (DCF). The model assumes a finite number of terminal and ideal channel conditions. The proposed analysis applies to both the packet transmission schemes employed by DCF, namely the Basic Access and the RTS/CTS access mechanisms. It also applies to a combination of the two schemes, in which packets longer than a given threshold are transmitted according to the RTS/CTS mechanism.

A comprehensive method for self-organizing Wireless Sensor Networks is presented. In this approach, each node selects its parent node using a natural selection-like process (selection of the fittest individual). The main goal is to extend the network lifetime by distributing the traffic load among the nodes with a higher probability of survival.
