Housing FAQ

When can I apply to the University of Houston residence halls?
You can apply for the residence halls before applying for UH admission. We process all housing applications on a first come, first serve basis. We highly recommend applying at least a full semester ahead.
How do I apply?
You can apply online from the main Web page or you can mail the inserted application to our office. Once we process your application, the housing office will send you an application confirmation letter through e-mail or postal mail. If you do not receive an application confirmation notice, please contact us to inquire.  You can contact us at 713-743-6000 or toll free at 1-800-247-7184.
How late can I apply?
There is no official deadline date to apply for housing. As long as we have space, we will continue to accommodate applicants. The sooner you apply for housing, your chances of being accommodated are higher. If space is not available, we will continue to process housing applications. If any space does become available, we will assign housing based on date the application is received.
Are freshmen required to live on-campus?
No, living on-campus is optional.
How many hours are required in order to live on-campus?

What will happen after I have applied?
You will receive a Room and Board Agreement for the academic year and/or summer session(s) in May and for the spring semester in November. Return the Room and Board Agreement no later than the date indicated on the agreement.

My friend and I are new students attending the university in the fall. Can we room together?
If there is a specific student that you would like to room with, both of you need to indicate that preference on your application. To be valid, these requests must include the prospective roommate’s student ID. Both parties need to complete and mail the application and agreement at the same time. We will do our best to assign students together.
What happens if I do not have a roommate preference?
If you do not have a roommate preference, we will try our best to room you with a student with the same classification and/or major.
