GEAR Pre-Proposal Submission and Review Information

| Business: | Email pre-proposal in PDF format to Dr. Tom George. The Dean will appoint an ad-hoc committee by research expertise to evaluate and rank the proposals. |
| CLASS: | Pre-proposal should be submitted by email in PDF format to Dr. Anadeli Bencomo. Refer to this document (PDF) for the review process. |
| Education: | Pre-proposal should be submitted by email in PDF format to the COE Associate Dean for Research, Dr. Ezemenari Obasi. Pre-proposals will be reviewed by the COE Research Committee using the following format: First, each pre-proposal will be rated along the dimensions of significance, innovation, approach, investigators, and potential for external funding. Each area will be ranked on a scale from 1 (exceptional) to 9 (poor). Finally, an overall impact score will be generated on a scale from 1 (High) to 9 (Low). The averages of the overall impact scores will be used to rank order our GEAR pre-proposals. |
| Engineering: | Pre-proposals should be submitted in PDF format to Ms. Winsome Chee with a CC to Dr. Hanadi Rifai. Upon receipt of pre-proposals and in consultation with the Associate Dean for Research and Departmental Chairs, the Dean will appoint a committee of no less than 2 and no more than 6 faculty members depending on the areas of research that have been proposed to review and rank the pre-proposals in engineering. |

| Optometry: | Email pre-proposal to rrattelade@optometry.uh.edu by January 29, 2016. The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, Dr. Laura Frishman, will appoint a committee of peers to review the proposals, once the topics of the proposals are known. The committee will submit its recommendations to the Associate Dean. After consultation with Dean Smith, the Associate Dean will forward the recommendations to RSC. |
| Pharmacy: | Email pre-proposal to Dr. Mustafa Lokhandwala. The College of Pharmacy research committee will review and submit their recommendations to Dr. Lokhandwala, Executive Vice Dean for Research. After consultation with Dean Pritchard, the Executive Vice Dean for Research will forward the recommendations to RSC. |
| Technology: | Email pre-proposal to Dr. Rupa Iyer. Pre-proposals will be reviewed by Cot research committee and rated for scientific merit and potential for future funding across 3 categories, scientific merit, innovation, and potential for external funding.
