Dr. Mark Roltsch, Assistant Vice President for Research at the University of West Florida, will present “How to Write a Successful NIH Career Development Award (K Award). Dr. Roltsch received his PhD in exercise physiology from the University of Maryland. Following a postdoctoral fellowship at the Howard University Cancer Center, Dr. Roltsch began his career as a Peer Review Administrator for NASA. Dr. Roltsch then joined the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute as a Scientific Review Officer, rising to Deputy Chief of the Clinical Trials and Training Branch of the Office of Scientific Review. Dr. Roltsch then became the Program Director in the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences Office of Research Training and Career Development. Dr. Roltsch will discuss how to prepare a competitive career development proposal as well as general tips for writing successful NIH grants.
