YOUTH POLICY
CUBBIE CORNER POLICIES
GENERAL GUIDELINES :
· Entry to the activity zone must be made through
the Rotunda and ID check station.
· Side and rear exits are alarmed and to be used
only in emergency situations.
· Every member must show a valid ID to enter the
facility.
· Only water in no-spill plastic containers is allowed
in the activity zone.
· Members are encouraged not to bring any valuables
with them to the CRWC. Backpacks and/or personal belongings
are to be stored in a day locker (available for free) or
a rented locker in the locker rooms. CR staff are unable
to hold personal items for members.
· Shoes must be worn to enter the activity zone.
Only athletic, non-marking rubber-soled shoes are allowed
on playing surfaces (all courts, and multi-purpose rooms).
Sandals and bare feet are prohibited in the second floor
fitness zone and track.
· The use of protective eye wear is strongly encouraged
in the racquetball and squash courts.
· Proper athletic clothing must be worn in the second
floor fitness zones.
· A towel must be placed between the body and upholstery
being used to minimize the transmission of infections.
· The use of collars and spotters is highly encouraged
when working out on weights.
· Weights and related equipment may not be removed
from the fitness zones.
· Users may not “bang” dumbbells or drop
weights as this damages equipment.
· All free weights, dumbbells, plates, etc., must
be returned to their respective racks following use.
· Members are expected to follow the directions of
CRWC staff at all times. Questions about any staff decision
can be directed to the administrative office on Room 2000.
THE FOLLOWING IS NOT ALLOWED
· Gum inside CRWC.
· Food or any other non-water beverages inside the
activity zone.
· Backpacks or personal items on the courts, floors,
or seating areas.
· Black racquetball balls.
· Baseballs, footballs, and/or softballs.
· Balls of any kind on the second floor.
· Clothing with rivets or zippers that can tear upholstery.
Denim jeans.
· Bouncing or kicking balls on terrazzo floor.
· Stretching on indoor track.
· Watching first floor activity from indoor track.
(Exceptions may be made in advance for special events.)
· Video taping and the taking of still pictures without
prior approval.
INTRAMURAL/SPORT CLUBS SPECTATOR POLICY :
Keeping in mind that the facility was not designed for
a large volume of spectators during team practices and competitions,
and the need to provide a safe and secure environment for
all members anyone wanting to bring in a guess for the purpose
of only observing a sporting competition has two options:
1. Submit a request in writing by 5 PM of the day of competition
to the administration offices and receive written approval
for guests to enter at no charge.
2. Purchase a guest pass at the Welcome Desk for $6.00.
MUSIC POLICY :
Currently under development. Please contact the administrative
offices with any questions or suggestions.
LOST AND FOUND :
· Any items found will be turned into the Welcome
Desk where the items will be logged into a journal.
· Any items left in the Day Lockers at closing will
be logged in as lost items.
· Clothes, basketballs, towels, etc. will be stored
in a container in the equipment room.
· All wallets, jewelry, or any other valuables will
be secured in a safe.
· Clothes, towels, or any other personal items will
be discarded after one month.
· Valuables will be kept one week and then taken
to the University Police Department.
· Every Friday, all ID’s will be turned into
the Cougar One office.
· In order for anyone to claim their lost item, they
must describe the item in detail and then fill out the claim
information in the lost and found log-in book.
OPEN RECREATION SET UP :
University of Houston (UH) Department of Campus Recreation
(CR) strives to ensure that no single activity, special
event, and/or sport dominate the use of the CRWC. Since
the facility was designed to accommodate many different
types of activities, every effort will be made maximize
options available to the members. There will be occasions
that portions of the CRWC will be reserved for intramural
competitions and sports club usage and other times space
will be rented to student and other organizations. However,
when we are in 100% open recreation operation CRWC members
will have several activities from which to choose from.
Main Gym Court One will be available for basketball until
a request for volleyball set-up (at least six people must
be available for volleyball set-up). Monday – Friday,
after 3:00 pm, two volleyball courts will be set-up. Saturday
- Sunday two volleyball courts will be set-up on first request.
Main Gym Court Two will be available for basketball. Either
one full-court or two half-court games can be played.
Main Gym Court Three will be available for basketball
until a request for badminton set-up (at least two people
must be available for badminton set-up). Monday –
Friday, after 3:00 pm, two badminton courts will be set-up
leaving room for one “half court” basketball
game. Saturday - Sunday all four badminton courts will be
set-up on first request.
Center Court (North and South) will be available for basketball.
Options include two full-court, one full-court and two half-courts,
or four half-court games. There may be some occasions that
warrant volleyball to be set up on Center Court during open-recreation.
Multi-Activity Court (MAC) will be available for indoor
soccer and roller hockey. There may be some occasions that
warrant set up for special events. MAC can be reserve or
first come; first serve.
Racquetball/Handball and Squash Courts
RESERVATION PROCEDURES ARE AS FOLLOWS:
· The day you want to reserve a court call the
Welcome Desk (713) 743-PLAY (7529) between 6 and 10am or
come in person
anytime during operating hours.
· Members may reserve a one hour block.
· Members have up to 10 minutes after the hour
to check in. If they do not check in on time, their reservation
will be cancelled.
Vollyball can be set-up upon request. Reservations should
be made as indicated above.
Multi-Purpose Rooms 1 and 2 (downstairs) are primarily
used for scheduled instructional fitness classes, sport
club practices and special events. When not scheduled, the
space is available for stretching, small group dance practice,
and some martial arts activities (small group).
Multi-Purpose Rooms 3 (upstairs) is primarily available
for open recreation on a first come first serve basis. Students
are encouraged to share the space when activity allows for
multiple users. Uses include stretching, individual or dual
dance practice, and some martial arts activities (individual
or dual).
Multi-Purpose Rooms 4 and 5 (upstairs) are primarily used
for scheduled instructional fitness classes, sport club
practices and special events. When not scheduled, the space
is available for stretching, small group dance practice,
and some martial arts activities (small group).
Indoor Track is primarily used for recreational jogging.
When three or more joggers are together please run only
two side by side. Walkers and slower joggers jog on the
inside of track. Sprinting only on the backside (south side)
of track. Even dates run clockwise, odd dates run counter
clockwise.
AQUATIC FACILITIES :
Natatorium is primarily used for lap swimming, instructional
fitness classes and recreational play. Learn to swim and
other instructional programs are offered by the Department
of Campus Recreation at scheduled times. UH swimming and
Diving team also use the facility for practice and competition.
When the schedule permits, outside organizations may rent
out space. Due to the unique nature of aquatic facilities
the following guidelines and policies exist:
General Guidelines for Natatorium:
Enter the water only when a lifeguard is on duty.
Shower before entering the water.
Shower after a stay in the sauna.
Proper swimming attire is required for use of this facility.
Circle swim is always in effect.
The Aquatic Staff have authority over all participants regarding
policy enforcement.
Groups that have rented/reserved the pool are only allowed
in their designated pool area and locker rooms.
The following is not allowed in the Natatorium
Running
Tanning/Baby Oil
Floats/Rafts/Inner Tubes
Glass or Breakable Containers
Hard Plastic Toys
Food/Gum/Drinks other than Water
Hanging or Dunking on the Basketball Goal
Riding, Standing on Shoulders, or Aggressive Play
Use of Aqua Belts as a Flotation Devices
Band-Aids
Spitting/Spouting in the Pool, please use the gutters
Individuals with skin diseases, infections, or open sores
Crossovers, Deep Water Bobbing or Involuntary Breath Holding
Hanging or Sitting on the Lane Lines
Individuals who are Intoxicated
Use of Tobacco Products is Strictly Prohibited
Unauthorized personnel may not:
Walk on or swim under the bulkheads.
Wear street shoes on the deck.
Stand on or use starting blocks.
The following is allowed with restrictions
An adult must accompany children under the age of 16 at
all times.
An adult must accompany children under the age of 6 in the
water at all times.
There is a limit of 1 adult per 3 children under the age
of 6.
Infants and Toddlers must wear leak proof pants or swimming
diapers.
Children wearing arm floats, inflatable rings or toys, or
lifejackets must be an arms length from an adult in the
water at all times and are limited to the shallow end.
Diving Boards/Platforms are primarily available for UH
Diving team practice and competition but are also available
for recreational use. When the schedule permits, outside
organizations may reserve the use of the boards/platforms.
Due to the unique nature of diving structures the following
guidelines and policies exist:
General Guidelines for the Diving Boards/Platforms:
Only 1 person on the board/platform at a time.
Children must be able to swim without assistance in order
to use the board/platform.
Fulcrum wheel must remain in the forward position at all
times.
Divers must dive straight off the board/platform.
Exit the dive well immediately after diving.
The following is not allowed on the Diving Boards/Platforms:
T-Shirts and loose clothing
Dives with backward-motion
Cut away dives
Dives deemed unsafe by aquatic staff
Usage of the 7.5 and 10 meter platforms
The following is allowed with restrictions Diving Boards/Platforms
Usage of the 5-meter platform during designated times.
Children must be 12 years of age to go off the 5-meter platform
unless participating in an coached/supervised class.
Spa/Hot Tubs are available on deck in the Natatorium and
outside in the leisure pool. They are available primarily
for recreational use. UH Diving team will also use the Natatorium
spa. Due to the unique nature of aquatic facilities the
following guidelines and policies exist:
General Guidelines in the Spa:
Shower before entering the spa.
Shower before entering the spa or pool after a stay in the
sauna.
Limit your use of the spa to 15 minutes; long exposure may
result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
An adult must accompany children between the ages of 6 and
16 at all times.
Only 15 persons at a time are permitted in the spa.
Individuals with the following should not use the spa:
o heart disease
o diabetes
o high or low blood pressure
o circulatory problems
o respiratory problems
o seizures
o epilepsy
o pregnancy
o on prescription medication
o those under the influence of alcohol and/or illegal drugs
The following is not allowed in the Spa
Children under 6 years of age.
Body lotions, oils, or suntan preparations.
Submerging to the bottom of the spa. Hair/clothing may become
entangled in the drain suction.
Dry Sauna is available on deck in the Natatorium. It is
available primarily for recreational use. Due to the unique
nature of this space the following guidelines and policies
exist:
General Guidelines in the Sauna :
Cool down 5 minutes after exercising before entering.
Shower before entering the spa or pool after a stay in the
sauna.
Strenuous exercise is prohibited in the sauna.
Only swimwear may be worn in the Sauna.
All individuals using the sauna must sit on a towel.
Limit your use of the spa to 15 minutes; long exposure may
result in nausea, dizziness, or fainting.
An adult must accompany children between the ages of 6 and
16.
Only 15 persons at a time are permitted in the .
Individuals with the following should not use the sauna:
o heart disease
o diabetes

Leisure Pool is primarily used for recreational swimming
and lounging between Noon and 8 PM. When the schedule permits
outside groups may reserve the pool are for special events.
Inclement weather can close the pool for periods during
the day or for the entire day. The pool will be close for
the months of December and January. Due to the unique nature
of aquatic facilities the following guidelines and policies
exist:
General Guidelines for the Leisure Pool:
Enter the water only when a lifeguard is on duty.
Shower before entering the water.
Shower after a stay in the sauna.
Proper swimming attire is required for use of this facility.

YOUTH POLICY:
The object of family memberships is to provide opportunities
for parents and children to recreate together and to encourage
sport and fitness development in our youth. Due to the volume
of participation at the CRWC, the extensive equipment located
in the facility, and the natural curiosity of children this
policy has been developed to ensure the safety of our youth
members. Children under 16 years of age must be supervised
by an adult at all times while in the facility. Youth members
16 years and above may use the facility without adult. Drivers
Licenses will be used to verify age.
More specifically:
1. For Fitness/Aerobic Classes:
· Children under the age of 16 are not permitted
as participants or spectators in fitness/aerobic classes.
2. For the Second Floor:
· Children 13 and under are not permitted on the
second floor
· Children under the age of 16 are not permitted
as participants or spectators in the second floor Fitness
area east of
the fitness help desk (pool side).
· Children age 14-15 are permitted on the indoor
track, cardiovascular equipment and the white Lifefitness
equipment when closely
supervised by an adult (within 10
feet). However, they must wear a wristband issued at the
Welcome Desk.
3. For the Climbing Wall:
· Children between 13-17 may climb the wall, however
their parent/guardian must come with them the first time
to sign the waiver.
· Children 12 and under can also climb, however,
their parent must sign the waiver & be with them 100%
of the time while they are
climbing and the child must be
physically large enough to fit into the safety harness (typically
at least age 8).
4. For the Aquatic areas:
· An adult must accompany children under the age
of 16 at all times.
· An adult must accompany children under the age
of 6 in the water at all times.
· There is a limit of 1 adult per 3 children under
the age of 6.
· Infants and Toddlers must wear leak proof pants
or swimming diapers.
· Children wearing arm floats, inflatable rings or
toys, or lifejackets must be an arms length from an adult
in the water at
all times and are limited to the shallow
end.
5. Child spectators at intramural and other special events
must have a non-playing adult directly supervising the
child
during the event.
Cubby Corner is available for parents who need assistance
supervising their children.
CUBBIE CORNER POLICIES :
- We
accept children aged six months to fourteen years.
-
Parents must be in the facility while their
children are in the center.
-
Registrations forms must be filled out prior to use of
center.
- There
is a minimum $2.00 charge per child for one hour.
Anything over one hour is $4.00. Two hours is maximum
allowed time.
- Snacks
(not meals) for children are permitted, but must be
provided by parents.
-
Parents must provide all diapers, wipes, bottles, and
other necessities.
- A
maximum child: staff ratio of 7:1 will be maintained for
children under five years of age.
- We do
not accept sick children; any child who appears ill may
be refused admittance.
- Entry
is not allowed through the back door of the center.

Parents are not allowed inside the center except for
emergencies.
