The Department of Engineering Technology of the College of Technology at the University of Houston is seeking to fill one or more tenure-track positions in its Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program starting in fall 2008.
The positions are expected to be filled at the Assistant or Associate Professor Level, but outstanding candidates at the Professor level will also be considered. The appointment level will be commensurate with the candidate's academic and industrial experience.
The successful candidate will have earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, a Doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field and will have a combination of teaching and relevant industrial experience. Particular areas of interest include Computer Aided Engineering Design, Instrumentation & Control, Thermal/Fluids, Manufacturing and Automation, MEMS/NEMS, Bio-Technology, and related or emerging areas. Candidates with teaching and/or research interests at the interface of two or more of these areas are especially encouraged to apply.
Faculty members are expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, develop collaborative research initiatives with university wide constituents, articulate well with industry, and contribute to the continuous improvement and outcome-based assessment of the program to maintain professional accreditation. The individual must command excellent written and oral communication skills and must continually improve his/her teaching skills.
The MET program has experienced steady growth in student enrollment and in industrial and research funding support. The department has over 750 students, 27 full-time faculty and staff, offers 6 B.S. degrees, a Master of Technology degree, and spends over $1.OM from external sources.
