The Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department of the University of Houston, invites applicants for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the field of stable isotope geochemistry, with research interests in the broad areas of global climate change/ paleoclimatology.
The applicants specific interests related to the climate record can include but are not limited to paleopedology, paleooceanography, chemostratigraphy, biogeochemistry and limnology. We are particularly interested in applicants who can provide a bridge between our newly expanded Atmospheric Science Program and our long-established Geology and Geophysics programs.
The successful candidate is expected to maintain a vigorous research program, sustain a strong record of peer-reviewed publication and external funding, advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to the teaching mission of the Department.
The successful candidate will join an active and expanding faculty in geology, geophysics, and atmospheric science presently consisting of 25 tenure track and approximately 10 research faculty members. The successful candidate will have access to modem analytical facilities including stable isotope (O, H, C, S) mass spectrometers, 40Ar/39Ar and (U+Th)/He facilities, ICP-MS equipped with a 213nm laser ablation microprobe, clean lab, ICP-OES, electron microprobe, SEM, TEM, XPS, and organic and hydro-chemistry labs as well as field based equipment including air chemistry supersite, GPR, ground based Lidar, GPS, an and broadband seismometer systems. Access to industry-supported labs including the Quantitative Sedimentology Lab and Petroleum Geochemistry Lab is also available.
The Department maintains a full suite of commercial GIS, remote sensing, seismic processing, seismic interpretation, 3D visualization and cross-section software, as well as state-of-the-art workstations and the largest high performance computing capabilities within the University.
