The Cullen College of Engineering, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Houston, seeks candidates for two tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor levels.

The University of Houston is Texas' premier public metropolitan research and teaching institution with 34,000 students located in a park-like campus a few minutes from downtown. The ECE department has 33 tenure-track faculty, 500 undergraduate and 240 graduate students, of which 90 are Ph.D. students. The main research focus in the Department is grouped under four areas: 1) applied electromagnetics, 2) nanosystems, 3) neuro-engineering, and 4) sensor technology and well logging. One of the open positions is in the area of sensor technology and well-logging. The second position is in a research area that would create synergy at the interface of two or more of the main focus areas.

Successful candidates will have an earned doctorate in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, petrophysics, material science, neuro-engineering or a closely related discipline. Senior candidates are expected to show evidence of internationally-recognized scholarship and a strong record of externally funded research. The appointment will commence August 16, 2008.

Successful candidates can expect a highly competitive start-up package and numerous opportunities for collaboration. The latter include working with existing research groups within the Department and College as well as research centers on campus. In addition, an $80M "state of the-art" Science and Engineering Building has been recently completed. Other opportunities for collaboration include Houston institutions such as HP-Compaq, NASA, and the nearby Texas Medical Center.
