The Department of Curriculum & Instruction
With 40 full-time faculty serving nearly 500 graduate students and 1,000 undergraduates, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction figures prominently in the future growth and scholarly aspirations of the University. Within the Department the preparation of teachers and school administrators is viewed as a scholarly endeavor, and there is a college-level commitment to a strong teacher education course of study. The Department is home to the ATE award-winning teacher education program. At the graduate level we offer numerous certificates and masters degrees as well as the doctorate in education. The Department plans to launch a new Executive Ed.D. in Instructional Leadership in 2009 while a new Ph.D. program in Curriculum and Instruction is under development.
Qualifications
We seek a Department Chairperson with an established record of external funding and a record of nationally recognized scholarship. The successful candidate will have an immediate opportunity to strategically add to and strengthen our faculty.
Responsibilities include serving as leader of a dynamic and diverse department committed to shared faculty governance, fostering continued collaboration with our urban community and our 34 school district partners responsible for educating almost one million Texas youngsters, and providing leadership for faculty research and scholarship.
Preference will be given to applicants eligible for appointment as a Full Professor with a specialization in either Curriculum and Instruction or Educational Leadership. This position reports directly to the Dean of the College of Education.
