Carpools/Vanpools
Form your own car-vanpool
You may already have
your car-vanpool partners in mind, or you can utilize the online Ride
Matching service offered by METRO. Also, check-out METRO's new STAR service.
Eligibility
All car-vanpool members must meet the following criteria
- Not a resident of campus housing or any apartment complex served by the UH Shuttle Service. (Cullen Oaks, Cambridge Oaks, or Bayou Oaks).
- Be an active employee or a registered student of the University of Houston – Main Campus.
- Have no outstanding UH parking violations.
Guidelines
- A program year runs from
September 1 to August 31.

No member can purchase an
individual UH parking permit.
- All members must register
their vehicles with UH Parking and Transportation Services (PTS) at the
beginning of the program year and registrations must be kept current during
the year.
- A primary driver must be
designated and will be responsible for parking violations issued to any
vehicle using the car-vanpools parking permit that is not registered with
PTS.
- In the event of cancellation
by one or more of the members, PTS must be notified immediately.
- If the car-vanpool dissolves,
members will lose all rights and benefits received under the Car-Vanpool
Program.
- Payroll deduction is available
for faculty/staff car-vanpools; however, deductions will only be taken from
the primary driver.
- Only one parking permit will
be issued per car-vanpool.
- Replacement of lost or stolen
permits will be subject to the regulations governing other permits.
- Each member will receive
Courtesy Parking Permits (see below).
- Members may only participate
in one car-vanpool at a time.
- Motorcycles, motor scooters
and mopeds are excluded from the car-vanpool program.
- Car-vanpools must be
registered each program year.
- PTS reserves the right to
periodically check the employment and enrollment status of the members.
Violation of the program guidelines may result in the termination of
car-vanpool privileges.
Courtesy Parking Permits
In the event a member needs to drive
themselves to work instead of riding with their registered car-vanpool, each
member will be issued one courtesy parking permit for each remaining month
in the program year, up to a maximum of twelve courtesy permits. These
permits expire at the end of the program year in which they were issued.
Members will be responsible for their own parking charges in excess of the
twelve courtesy permit.
