Oliver to Lead UH System Facilities

Houston, Nov 5, 2015 – David Oliver has been named interim associate vice chancellor/associate vice president for facilities for the University of Houston System and University of Houston.

A licensed professional engineer and native Texan, Oliver began his career as a quality control and engineering intern with the Texas Department of Transportation after graduating from Texas Tech University in 1986 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.

Joining the U.S. Navy several years later as a civil engineer corps officer, he was responsible for the construction of a large variety of projects and numerous renovations. During his naval service, he earned a master’s degree in construction management and civil engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. After leaving the Navy in 2000, Oliver attended Texas A&M University, where he earned his master’s degree in business administration in 2002, the same year he started and operated a construction firm specializing in building custom homes in the Bryan-College Station area. 

Oliver was hired by the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2008 as its construction manager. He was subsequently promoted to director of engineering and project management in 2009. He was responsible for directing the university’s construction renovation projects and the in-house engineering, design and project management staff.

In 2011, he accepted a position as assistant vice president for facilities at the University of Texas at San Antonio. As assistant vice president, he directed the university’s facilities operations and maintenance, which included utilities, business services, housekeeping, grounds and fleet management, in addition to the maintenance and operations at the downtown and Institute of Texan Culture campuses.

As interim associate vice chancellor/associate vice president for facilities for the University of Houston System and University of Houston, Oliver looks forward to providing leadership, guidance and direction to the facilities functions of all the UH System campuses as well as the University of Houston’s departments of Facilities Services and Facilities Planning and Construction.
