First ADOPT-A-SPOT Event Scheduled For Earth Day April 22

Adopt-A-Spot is a brand new campus stewardship volunteer program sponsored by Facilities Management, that involves the adoption of specific locations on the UH campus, with a commitment and action to keep the location litter free and beautified throughout the semester.  The April 22 event marks the first Adopt-A-Spot event – other Adopt-A-Spot events will be scheduled throughout the year.

Adopt-a-Spot

The program is designed to encourage community ownership of our wonderful campus and to prevent littering through beautification and maintenance events.  The ultimate campus goal is to achieve a zero waste level on campus – this means a goal of diverting as high a percentage of waste and litter as possible from the landfills through consistent and continuous recycling and trash collection.

This Monday, April 22, Adopt-A-Spot campus partners will collect and pick up trash and recyclables, and weed and spread mulch in landscape beds in the adopted area.  Campus partners are students, student organizations, faculty and staff volunteers. FM staff members will be on hand during the event and will support the volunteers by providing supplies, tools, collection bags and collection bag pickup. Adopt-A-Spot gives employees, students and student organizations an opportunity for year-long involvement and stewardship in helping keep the campus beautiful while raising awareness of sustainability and recycling initiatives.

We are proud to recognize and thank the following groups as Adopt-A-Spot campus partners that will be participating in the Earth Day event --

American Advertising Federation                Architecture and Art Library Staff

Master of Public Administration                   American Medical Student Association

Alpha Psi Omega   American Optometric Student Association

 A&F (Administration and Finance)
