Crane Will Affect University Drive Lane and University Center Circle

Starting Wednesday, Dec. 26, the closure of both lanes on the north side of University Drive will be required to allow placement of a large crane in the University Center circle.

The crane will be used to begin removal of the super-structure of the atrium skylight and erection of the new structure as part of the University Center Transformation project.

During this time, inbound traffic will be diverted to one lane on the south side of the University Drive median and the entire area will be blocked off (as shown in the stage 1 diagram).  The street will remain closed through Friday, Dec. 28.

Construction of the roof will begin on Dec. 29 and is scheduled to end Jan. 6. During this second stage (as shown on the stage 2 diagram), traffic patterns and most pedestrian traffic will return to normal, but half of the UC Circle will remain closed where the crane will be operating. Pedestrians will be able to pass in front of the circle or across the street.
