On Monday, July 9, 2012, road work will begin on Calhoun Road between University Drive and the Melcher Hall crosswalk as part of construction on the UC Transformation project.

Map 1 shows the affected area and traffic control measures involving the curb cut plans for the temporary Melcher Lot. One south-bound lane on Calhoun will be closed and is expected to be completed by July 22, 2012. Once this entrance is completed, the remaining parking lot adjacent to Melcher Hall will be opened and can be accessed from the north. Traffic from the south will need to make a U-turn further north on Calhoun during this time. The impacted faculty/staff will be notified by Parking and Transportation Service by e-mail once the lot is re-opened for parking.

Map 2 shows the plan for making the median cut to create a vehicular left-turn crossing. This work will begin immediately after the curb cut above is complete. Work is expected to be completed by July 29, 2012 and will involve the closure of one north-bound lane and one south-bound lane as indicated. When the work is complete, this new entrance will become the sole entrance to the remaining parking lot and will be used for construction traffic to this lot. Upon completion, existing entrances from University Drive will be closed.

While this work is in progress some construction traffic will be utilizing the existing UC East loading dock drive which will remain open. The current Lot 1E gated entrance on University Drive will also be open to serve current parkers and delivery traffic.
