5 Students Present Projects Conducted in College of Pharmacy Faculty Research Labs at Undergraduate Research Day

Five Biology and Chemistry undergraduate students who conducted experiments within the labs of UH College of Pharmacy faculty researchers were among more than 150 fellow undergraduate students who presented their findings at the UH Undegraduate Research Day Oct. 9 at the M.D. Anderson Library's Rockwell Pavilion.

The UH Undergraduate Research Day presenters were either SURF 2014 program participants or fellow undergraduates who conducted substantive research projects within the last year.  

The UHCOP-affiliated poster presenters were: 

  • Matthew Kelly, with UHCOP Assistant Professor Samina Salim, "Coping deficits in postpartum female rats";

  • Jesus Paul Portillo Gutierrez, with UHCOP Assistant Professor Svetlana Tikunova, "Mice Expressing Mutant of Cardiac Troponin C Recapitulate Phenotype of Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM)";

  • Sina Rezaei, wth Assistant Professor Jason Eriksen, "Using FARSIGHT to Quantitatively Measure Changes in the Neurovasculature of an Alzheimer’s Mouse Model"; and

  • Peter Vu, with Associate Professor Bradley McConnell, "Role of Gravin in Cardiac Hypertrophy."

In addition, student Alexander Oderhowho was invited to deliver an oral presentation of his project, "Stress and Pregnancy: Cognitive and Behavioral deficits in offspring of stressed female mice," based in the lab of Associate Professor MariVi Tejada-Simon
