Housing
1-Day Conferences
The University of Houston does not provide housing for 1-day conferences.
2-Day Conferences
Overnight Housing for Orientation
Any student attending a 2-day conference may stay in a residence hall Thursday night for free (Wednesday/Friday night are $15 each). Students are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity, in order to be near Orientation activities.
Housing is capped at 250 persons per night, and reservations are given on a first-come first-serve basis.
Housing must be reserved before the deadline in the Orientation/Courseware portal.
- All rooms will be assigned two student occupants.
- Your package includes pillows, linens, and a towel.
- You may want to bring hangers, a blanket, and a telephone (phone jacks will be operational).
- Please remember that these are basic residence hall rooms - not hotel accommodations. Staff members are not able to provide wake-up calls, so you should bring an alarm clock.
Accessibility
Accessible rooms are available for students or guests who have disabilities. Please call Jackie Thomas at 713-743-6062 for more information.
Guest Housing
When you register for Orientation, you may also reserve additional nights of housing for yourself or for a guest. Each additional night is $15 per person, per night. Guests will not be housed with their students. See more information on Family/Guest Orientation.
Fees and Deadline
Changes and cancellations for housing reservations must be made by 5 p.m. on the Monday before your conference date. At this time, all reservations will be processed and fees are non-refundable. Changes and cancellations may be made by logging back into the Orientation/Courseware portal. All fees will be added to your student fee bill in PeopleSoft.
Parking
You have two parking options for your Orientation visit:
- Park in the UH parking garage (located at Entrance 1 at the intersection of Calhoun and University) for $5. You will have to go to the Central Cashiering Station in the garage elevator lobby to receive the $5 rate.
- Stop by the Visitor Information Booth (located at Entrance 1) and purchase a daily parking permit valid in student surface lots. The cost of the daily permit is $3.
To park overnight, you should purchase a multi-day permit ($3 per day) at the Visitor Information Booth. This permit is valid for Parking Lot 9. Make sure to ask for a multi-day permit, so that it is punched correctly.
Special Needs
The University is proud of its nearly barrier-free campus and its numerous support services for students who have a temporary or permanent health impairment, physical limitations, psychiatric disorders, or learning disabilities. If you will need assistance during the Orientation conference or need to request an accessible room for your overnight stay, please call the Center for Students with DisABILITIES at least one week prior to your conference date at 713-743-5400 (voice) or 713-749-1527 (TTY).
Directions to UH
Houston is served by two major airports. Hobby Airport is approximately 20 miles closer ($23 by cab) to the University of Houston than is the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. If you are traveling by car from I-45 North, take the Texas Spur 5 exit. Turn right on University Drive. From I-45 South, take the Elgin/Cullen/Lockwood exit. Turn left on Elgin and left at the second light. Turn right on University Drive. Keep straight to Entrance 1 at Calhoun Road.
Orientation check-in is located on the top floor of the University Center.
