A Master of Education in Curriculum & Instruction - Reading and Language Arts and Literature Education provides the best possible preparation for careers as leaders in schools and child-related agencies such as hospitals, industry, and mental health. This degree offers graduates two options to prepare for positions in literacy education.

The master's degree without certification option enables students to tailor a degree plan specific to interests in literacy education. Students interested in this route may be previously certified to teach or interested in learning more about research in the field.

The master's degree with teacher certification option, in addition to providing students with research skills, provides for preparation for three different possible certifications. These include Standard Teacher Certification in English, Language Arts and Reading, Reading Specialist Certification, and Master Reading Teacher.

Develop professional, interpersonal, and intrapersonal skills through core coursework, specialized electives, and either a comprehensive exam or master's thesis.
