Will Sinkhole Swallow City?

A salt dome has been deemed responsible for the mammoth sinkhole swallowing everything in its path in the town of Daisetta, northeast of Houston. Given the large number of salt domes in this area common to oil production, is a similar natural disaster likely here? Don Van Nieuwenhuise, a professor in the geosciences department at the University of Houston, is an expert on salt domes and has done research on them in the region. Search for UH faculty experts.
