Swine Flu and the Law: UHLC Summit Explores

Experts from the University of Houston Law Center's (UHLC) Health Law & Policy Institute will gather to discuss legal issues related to the current H1N1 virus, or swine flu.

"The H1N1 Flu Summit II: A Follow Up" will be held from 1:15-3:45 p.m., Friday, Oct. 30 at the UHLC's room 109 of the Bates Law Building. The event is open to practicing attorneys.

The UHLC presented a Flu Summit last year when interest in the H1N1 virus became elevated.

Panelists will explore four areas: special issues affecting employers, liability concerns for pharmacies, access to hospital care and aspects of the federal health emergency PREP Act (for reference, visit http://www.hhs.gov/disasters/emergency/manmadedisasters/bioterorism/medication-vaccine-qa.html).

Speakers include:

  • Patricia Gray, director of research for the Health Law & Policy Institute and former Texas legislator
  • Cynthia Marietta, research professor for health law
  • Craig Conway, research professor for health law
  • Gary Cacciatore, adjunct professor for Food and Drug Law
