University of Houston Publishing Policies

UH provides its users with access to local, national, and international sources of information in an atmosphere that encourages sharing of information, access to a rich collection of services, and open and free discussion for academic purposes and other University-related uses. UH does not wish to monitor or restrict the content of personal WWW pages; however, computing resources can be used improperly, sometimes quite unintentionally or, in rare instances, deliberately.

Commercial, for-profit activities or advertisements are generally not permitted. It is not permitted to run private business from the UH computer network. Nor should the University of Houston's name be used in such a way as to suggest an endorsement or promotion of services not directly related to the university's mission.

Web publishers at UH are responsible for the content of the pages they publish and are expected to abide by the highest standards of quality and responsibility. These responsibilities apply to all publishers, whether colleges, departments, student organizations, or individuals. Publishers are also required to comply with all UH System rules, University policies, and state and federal laws concerning appropriate use of computers. This page contains links to the most applicable rules, policies, and laws, including not only those laws and regulations that are specific to computers and networks, but also those that may apply generally to personal conduct.

In summary, general Guidelines to keep in mind are the following:
  • Pages should honor all copyright and trademark restrictions.
  • Pages must abide by all Federal, State, and local laws.
  • Pages representing the University of Houston should present up-to-date and accurate information.

Pages may be "unlinked" or removed if a user fails to meet the standards of this document. For more detailed statement of specific policies, please see below.
