- AHSA is open to students seeking American Humanics Certification.
- AHSA is a "student run" organization and provides many opportunities for developing leadership and teamwork skills.
- AHSA teams and committees organize and plan activities and events to gain experience in program planning, to network and interact with community leaders and nonprofit professionals, and to meet other students interested in working in nonprofit organizations.
- AHSA is a "safety net" for testing ideas, skills and knowledge in a professional setting while still a student. The Program Coordinator provides advising and direction, while encouraging students to make decisions and give input on program content.

American Humanics Management Institute 2008(AHMI) was held in Kansas City, MO, and facilitated by the national office of American Humanics in partnership with the Points of Light Foundation and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Margaret O'Donnell, Program Director and Lori Godwin, Program Coordinator, accompanied 23 students to the national annual Institute.
