Houston Scholar: Chris Holley

Major: Computer Science | Mathematics and Leadership Studies, Double Minor
Houston Scholars Project:
Visualization of MPI Parallel IO Datatypes
Advisor:  Dr. Peggy Lindner and Dr. Edgar Gabriel

During the summer of 2016, Chris Holley will work with the High Performance Computing Group at RWTH Aachen in Aachen, Germany to research the optimization of parallel I/O. Specifically, Chris is developing a tool that will allow for the visualization of data related to parallel I/O operations. This visualization tool will then be used to identify bottlenecks and other patterns that can affect the overall performance of a parallel application. The goal of this research is to more deeply understand parallel I/O and to increase the overall performance of high performance computing applications.

Future Direction:  Upon graduation, Chris would like to attend graduate school to obtain a Ph.D. in computer science.

About Houston Scholars

Supported by the Provost's Office and the Honors College, the Houston Scholars program is designed to bolster students’ academic and professional goals through faculty mentoring, research proposal development, and a semester discussion series led by University of Houston faculty from across the campus. Houston Scholars will also learn about national and international award opportunities, and receive assistance in developing applications for competitive programs.
