Like a lot of freshman I initially resented Human Situation. I kept thinking, “I’m a music major, how does any of this apply to me?” What I eventually realized is that H-Sit is the only class that addresses the issues most important to all of us. The course offers certain skills: it teaches us to untangle ideas, cut through BS, and to think in straight lines. Yes these are job skills, but more importantly, these are the tools we need to understand our relationships and ourselves. In the best-case scenario, you should come out of H-Sit with a better idea of how to deal with your family, your friends, your bf/gf, your side-hos, and that one roommate who always clogs the shower drain.
But that doesn’t always happen. H-Sit is a tough course. I still feel embarrassed when I think about how poorly I did my first semester. It’s easy to flounder in a text, get frustrated, lose sight of the importance of this class, and then give up altogether. We the fellows have been through the exact same thing. We’re here to offer you a lifeboat.
