David Brenner has been an Assistant Professor of German Studies, Comparative Literature, and Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado (1994-1999), Cornell University (visiting, 1997-1998), Kent State University (1999-present), and Universität Konstanz (visiting, 2007-08). While at Kent State University, he has also served as Chair of Jewish Studies and Ethnic Studies Programs (1999-2003). He is the author of two books, Marketing Identities: The Invention of Jewish Ethnicity in Ost und West (Wayne State University Press, 1998) and German-Jewish Popular Culture before the Holocaust: Kafka's Kitsch (Routledge, 2008). He has published articles and lectured on European and Jewish literary, cultural, and historical topics. He is currently completing a book on the cinema of genocide, entitled Shoah Business? Hollywood and the Holocaust in the Age of Globalization. He is currently a Visiting Assistant Professor in German at the University of Houston, where he also teaches courses in English and great books (The Human Situation: Antiquity).
