Your gift to the University of Houston Scholarship program can help promising students not only graduate, but achieve more and give more back. UH studies show 87% of our scholarship recipients stay at the university and have a higher grade point average than non-scholarship students. There are scholarship programs to fit every donor’s commitment.

Operating Scholarships provide support for a single year. Unlike endowments, these awards provide one-time, immediate financial assistance for current and prospective students. You may renew your support for a scholarship each year, and you may designate it to specific programs, colleges, or to the President’s Fund for Student Success.
Presidential Endowed Fellowship
The Presidential Endowed Fellowship is a renewable scholarship that specifically supports graduate students in all academic areas, and professional students pursuing degrees in pharmacy, law, social work or optometry. The PEF is permanently endowed at a minimum of $50,000 and produces a $2,000 annual award. The fellowship is renewable for the program’s normal completion time if the student meets the criteria established by the Graduate and Professional Studies Office. Matching opportunities are available, and a college or program may be specified.
Presidential Endowed Fellows will be selected through a joint effort with the UH colleges and the Graduate School. The selection criteria will be based on the individual program’s admissions requirements and may include GPA, professional testing scores and financial need.
Tier One Scholarships
The UH Tier One Scholarship program is a distinguished, high-profile award program intended to attract highly qualified students to the University of Houston. These scholarships will be awarded to first-time-in-college freshmen. Selection for these awards will be based on merit.
In 2009, an anonymous donor gave the University of Houston a generous $7 million gift to recruit promising students seeking a top-tier education. President Renu Khator plans to double that by matching all gifts to the newly created UH Tier One Scholarship Fund. Gifts of $25,000 to $1 million will be matched dollar for dollar.
Permanently endowed at a minimum of $50,000, each UH Tier One Scholarship provides a renewable scholarship that supports up to five years of undergraduate study, depending on the major, given the student maintains a high grade point average.
UH Tier One Scholars also will receive stipends for undergraduate research and for study-abroad programs.

As honored members of the Cougar family, donors are appreciated and recognized as champions of education at events and celebrations throughout the year.
