The UH Tier One Scholarship program is a distinguished, high-profile award program intended to attract highly qualified students to the University of Houston. These scholarships will be awarded to first-time-in-college freshmen. Selection for these awards will be based on merit.
In 2009, an anonymous donor gave the University of Houston a generous $7 million gift to recruit promising students seeking a top-tier education. President Renu Khator plans to double that by matching all gifts to the newly created UH Tier One Scholarship Fund. Gifts of $25,000 to $1 million will be matched dollar for dollar.
Permanently endowed at a minimum of $50,000, each UH Tier One Scholarship provides a renewable scholarship that supports up to five years of undergraduate study, depending on the major, given the student maintains a high grade point average.
UH Tier One Scholars also will receive stipends for undergraduate research and for study-abroad programs.
