For more information on participating in Frontier Fiesta please download the Road to Fiesta City Red Book. The Road to Fiesta City was written to provide you with all the necessary tools to participate and become a part of one of the oldest traditions the University of Houston and the City of Houston has to offer. It was designed to explain the forces behind the event, as well as detail ways for involvement. While this event's foundation lies within the University of Houston, the scope of its impact reaches far beyond the boundaries of the campus. It is an event with something for everyone and a showcase for everything.

The Road to Fiesta City was not designed to dictate involvement in the event, but rather to provide you with some guidelines and suggestions for participation. The material in this handbook is drawn from the experiences of past participants. Make sure you don't miss out on this opportunity to become part of one of the fastest growing, most exciting events in the country - Frontier Fiesta at the University of Houston.

Volunteer

Frontier Fiesta needs your help! Fiesta City is a great place, but can not run without the help of dedicated, hardworking volunteers.

Volunteer positions are available in the Fiesta City information booth, bank, and various other important locations. At the information booth, volunteers help to distribute the Gazette/Ad Book, answer any and all Fiesta City questions, and direct visitors to the numerous events being held at the city. Bank volunteers change cash into Fiesta Bucks and help to run the bank smoothly. Volunteers will also be needed to help run Saturday’s Family Fun Day and secure BBQ entrances.

We strongly encourage University of Houston organizations and departments to work together during selected volunteer times, if possible. Frontier Fiesta is more than willing to work with your organization or department to make your volunteer experience with Frontier Fiesta as enjoyable as possible!

Frontier Fiesta will need volunteers during the following times:

  • Thursday, March 25th, 2010 - 4:30 pm to 12:00 am
  • Friday, March 26th, 2010 - 4:30 pm to 1:00 am
  • Saturday, March 27th, 2010 - 11:30 am to 1:00 am

If you have questions, please contact the Director of Productions.

Alumni

There are a wide variety of ways that University of Houston Alumni can become involved in Frontier Fiesta!

COMMITTEEMEN

One of the best ways to support Frontier Fiesta is through a committeemen membership. Memberships can be purchased for individuals or couples on a yearly or lifetime basis. Committeemen memberships include: recognition in the Fiesta Gazette, committeemen pin, invitation to the President's Reception, VIP parking pass, free t-shirt, VIP seating for each night of the concerts, and free admittance into all variety shows.

LIFETIME COMMITTEEMEN

In addition, lifetime committeemen will also receive a lifetime committeemen pin, have access to all the variety shows for free and only pay the membership fee once.

COOK-OFF

The Cook-Off is a great way to support the event while also getting together with old friends and classmates for a weekend of fun. The BBQ cook-off is the largest source of community participation at Frontier Fiesta. Teams ranging from alumni associations, colleges, and outside organizations come to compete in the categories of beans, brisket, chicken, chili, fajitas, and ribs. Trophies are given to the first, second, and third place of each category at the awards ceremony on Saturday night. In addition, a cash prize is awarded to the first, second, and third place brisket winners.  Registration fee includes a 40’ X 40’ site, access to water, and one 20-amp electrical quad-box. Additional sites, electrical boxes, tables, chairs, and port-o-cans are available upon request, but require an addition fee.

College Sites

Frontier Fiesta is one of the most honored and oldest traditions at the University of Houston, dating back to 1940. It also affords University of Houston Colleges and Departments many opportunities to participate in your university, your tradition.

Frontier Fiesta is not only an excellent way to raise scholarship funds, but it also provides a means to connect with alumni, students, and the community. By sponsoring a college site, you will also have the opportunity to get your college's name out to a large audience. Over the last few years, 30,000 people on average have attended Frontier Fiesta. We, at the Frontier Fiesta Association, would like to extend your college an invitation to take part in one of our University's oldest and greatest traditions. We are always open to new ideas and are willing to accommodate almost any activity a U of H college or department would like to do.
