The University of Houston (UH) is concluding its first year as a member of the NASPA Lead Initiative cohort. Out of the approximately 1,200 institutions that have a membership with NASPA, under 100 institutions were selected as a Lead Institution for 2016-2017.
During the week of Spring Break, the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) sponsored three Alternative Service Break (ASB) trips that engaged 50 University of Houston (UH) students in learning about social issues through community service. Participants traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to focus on disaster relief from the recent tornadoes and community development; Ardmore, Oklahoma to engage with projects around environmental sustainability at Lake Murray State Park; and Killeen, Texas to support a camp for youth with disabilities.
The Center for Student Involvement (CSI) and Student Centers hosted an Inauguration Watch Party on January 20, 2017 for the inauguration of the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump. This non-partisan event was the last in a series of 2016 Election events designed to provide the University of Houston (UH) community with a unique civic engagement opportunity.

June 3, 2016 - Twenty three students from the University of Houston were honored with the President’s Volunteer Service Award at the Metropolitan Volunteer Program’s end of year banquet held on April 28, 2016.
Katy Kaesebier joined the Center for Student Involvement on April 25, 2016 as The Associate Director of Leadership and Civic Engagement.
May 10, 2016 – The Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) named UH students Jeffrey Hong, Olivia Kuligowski, and Khanh Nguyen as Resolution Fellows and as winners of the Resolution Social Venture Challenge at its annual conference held in Berkeley, California on April 2, 2016.
May 10, 2016 – Hundreds of University of Houston (UH) student volunteers fanned out throughout the neighborhood surrounding the Agape Center (6401 Calhoun Street) as part of the “Rock the Block” community cleanup event starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 9th, 2016. The block party followed from noon to 3 p.m. Festivities included a cookout, activities for kids and music.
January 22, 2016 – The University of Houston will honor King’s memory with “Breaking Barriers, Strengthening Communities.” This series of events will take place Jan. 23 – 27 on campus and in the community. All events are free and open to faculty, staff, students and the public.
