All creatures come into the world needing to sleep more than they need to be awake. The reasons for this increased sleep need early in life are only just beginning to be discovered. One thing we know for sure is that when children do not get the sleep they need, they are much more likely to have emotional problems that can persist all the way into adulthood.

How much sleep does my child need?

The experience of anxiety/fear is a normal part of development. Occasional fears or worry, such as when children start a new school year, are common and not necessarily cause for concern. However, anxiety or fear that persists over time, causes chronic sleep disruption, and/or limits a child's ability to function may signal a need for intervention.

What are some signs of child anxiety disorders?

At SACK, we conduct clinical research aimed at understanding and treating anxiety, emotional and sleep problems in children and adolescents. Children and families who participate in our research play a critical role in helping us to meet this goal. SACK also offers low-cost assessment, treatment and consultation services based on practices and strategies shown to be effective in research. Learn more.
