Wednesday, Feb. 6 showcase of College’s tenure-line faculty scholarship

Faculty Research - Book Display

By necessity the definition of research must be broad in a college that houses the humanities, health sciences, performing and visual arts and social sciences.

From 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 6, the College’s 16 departments will come together in the Rockwell Pavilion to showcase their faculties’ scholarship, experimentation and imaginative engagement artistic mediums.

The 2nd CLASS Faculty Research & Creative Activity Reception is an opportunity to spark cross-discipline conversations between departments and inspire students interested in careers in academia.

On display will be examples of the innovative work CLASS faculty members do in their academic fields of study to enhance human understanding, expand human capabilities and evolve human creativity.

The Moores School of Music will feature video clips of faculty-directed student performances.  John Snyder, Professor of Music Theory, organized his archival research into the Samuel Coleridge-Taylor: A Centennial Celebration, a symposium that included a panel discussion and two concerts that highlighted the Anglo-African composer’s works, life and legacy.

The Department of Sociology will display the most recent books and articles published by its faculty. Dr. Amanda Baumle has shared her research on whether and how marriage and family laws play a role in the parenting decisions of gay and lesbian parents with Houston Chronicle readers in an opinion editorial.

The Texas Obesity Research Center within the Department of Health and Human Performance held its biennial conference in November. The conference brought together obesity investigators from the United States, Mexico and Canada for discussions about their empirical and laboratory research.

“The hallmark of a great university is the research that is expected of every faculty member,” said Dean John W. Roberts. “We applaud the efforts of our faculty whose dedicated research contributes to our reputation as a great university and enriches the educational experience that we provide our students.”
